Etymology
From hu Munkács -i a city in Ukraine from the named location adjective-forming suffix y.
Its root word, the personal name Munca, ultimately from Proto-Slavic sla-pro *mǫka torture, torment, was common in the Árpád period, and also occurred in the Anjou era, both independently and with various diminutive suffixes. One of these suffixes is hu -cs, with which the personal name Munkács was formed, and this became the name of a settlement in Bereg County.
