Usage notes
The phrase may be used by speakers across the political spectrum in the United States and India but with slightly varied focus.
For sense 1, Republican supporters of President Trump's agenda ("MAGA Republicans") apply it to particular policies and actions with which they disagree, while independent and Democrat opponents sometimes apply it sarcastically to the entire MAGA movement, seeing it as serving the interests of Zionists over the general population of the United States. It is also antisemitically applied with reference to various conspiracies about Jewish control over American capitalism.
For sense 2, the phrase was initially popularised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to suggest India and America to develop closer ties.
