이야
Korean
Etymology
From ko okm - -이〮ᅀᅡ〮 -í-zá, from ko oko 是沙 *-i-sa.
In Old Korean, oko 沙 *-sa was actually a verbal suffix, so the first element oko 是 *-i- > -이〮- -í- is simply the copula ko -이다 to be.
After Middle Korean /z/ was lost, /-j-/ was introduced to break hiatus. ko-gys -이사 preserves the original pronunciation.
