First attested as casterloe in 1409. Possibly a compound of li la castra encampment + li lo clearing of trees, though this is deemed unlikely by the lack of archeological evidence of a Roman presence. Another possibility could be li dum *caster chestnut tree + li lo (see gmw-pro *kastannjā).
