Romanian
Etymology
Uncertain; possibly related to the Slavic derived name sh Radovan (for example, found in Serbian), although this name also exists separately in Romanian as a more recent borrowing, or less likely an internal formation within Romanian. Alternatively it may be ultimately of eastern (Persian and Arabic) origin via the Roma (Gypsy) community, possibly through India, or Ottoman Turkish ota رضوان (modern Turkish tr Rıdvan); see Arabic ar رضوان riḍwān.
