Luxembourgish
Etymology
From lb gmh nāchbūre, syncopic form of gmh nāchgebūre, from lb goh nāhgibūro, from lb gem-pro *nēhwagabūrô. Cognate with de Nachbar, nl nabuur, en neighbour. The devoicing of the labial was likely caused by the preceding voiceless -ch- in Middle High German. Alternatively it may be simply because postvocalic -b- is very rare in Luxembourgish.
Pronunciation
