Norwegian Nynorsk
Etymology
Originally a farm name. Last part from nn non lauss loose; -less, or the noun non lausa f, a variant of non leysa lack. The first part is uncertain, but may come from non draf dregs, draff, or from nn drafli a dainty made of caramelised curdled milk. The latter would be a derogatory exonym, implying they had less food on this farm. Compare the is - farm name is Draflaleysa.
Oluf Rygh has suggested nn non *Draglausa as a possible Old Norse form, from non drag pull, drag.
