Etymology
Partially from a union of a stem vowel grc -ε- and grc -ιος, usually from stems in grc -εύς (originally grc *-ηϝ-, whence the Ionic diaeresis), and sometimes applied to other stems.
Partially from grc -εῖϝος, from grc ine-pro *-iHwós, an extended form of ine-pro *-wós. Note the double Latin adoption la -īvus (e.g. la Argīvus) and la -ēus (e.g. la mūsēum). Cognate with la -īvus.
