Finnish
Etymology
From fi urj-fin-pro *-ntadak factitive, possibly even from fi urj-pro *-mta-, but in any case equal to fi -eta -(e)n(e)- taa (the causative form of fi -eta, with which the stem-final vowel change is shared).
Suffix

Forms factitive verbs from adjectives and names of languages, meaning "causing to become" or "making"; -en, -fy
fi pieni small -ntää pienentää to shrink

Usage notes
The suffix is added to the genitive singular (weak grade) stem. A preceding stem-final fi -a-, fi -ä- changes to fi -e- (see fi -eta for more on this change), except in some newer derivations, such as fi kuvantaa and fi kustantaa.
