edeta edetä
Latin
Etymology
Of uncertain origin. Usually considered a pre-Roman la xib - place-name, possibly containing a locative suffix und *-(e)ta attached to a stem und *(h)ede- of uncertain meaning.
Alternatively, Membrado-Tena proposes a reduplicated formation und *ed-et-, ultimately connected with la ine-pro *wed- water, wet, interpreting the name as approximately “abundant water” in reference to the numerous springs around the city.Joan Carles Membrado-Tena (2022), “El paisatge del passat a través de topònims urbans valencians actuals”, Treballs de la Societat Catalana de Geografia, 93, pp. 117–140, especially p. 132.
