Finnish
Etymology
fi Häme Hämeen gen Tavastian koski rapid, originally just fi Koski but later with a qualifier to distinguish from what is now called fi Koski Tl. The qualifier was adopted by the municipality (replacing earlier fi Koski Hl) in 1995 to emphasize its 'Tavastianness', after the municipalities in Päijät-Häme (including Hämeenkoski) had started to petition to be allowed to join Uusimaa. The original name probably refers to nearby rapids.
