Usage notes
The German word is used chiefly when the identity of the person is either unknown or irrelevant (as in “someone”, “anyone”). Otherwise de Mensch is preferred in many contexts. For example, one would say de Sie ist ein netter Mensch. She’s a nice person.; de Person would sound odd in this sentence.
