Etymology
de :inh gmh:vurch<ety:inh<goh:furh>> 1
From de gmh vurch, from de goh furh, from de gmw-pro *furh, from de gem-pro *furhs.
The word is an original root noun and shows rests of this declension in gmh - alongside i-stem forms both with an without umlaut (gmh vürhe, vurhe). From these, weak plurals (gmh vürhen, vurhen) and new singulars in de -e were later derived. Prevocalic de -ch- < gmh -h- is chiefly (eastern) Upper German, but established itself more widely in order to avoid homonymy with unrelated de Fuhre cartload, although this merger did take place in some Central German dialects.
