German
Etymology
From de gmh schedel skull. Further origin uncertain. Borrowing from de gml schedel schêdel top of the head, head, skull, cognate with de Scheitel top of the head, parting of the hair, suggests itself, but is not embraced in most of the literature. If that theory is correct, then it would be derived from de gmw-pro *skaidilu part in the hair, top, crown, crest, summit.
