nb non Brúarflǫt, from non brúar, the genitive singular of non brú bridge, and non flǫt flat, level piece of land, literally “bridge flat”. 1317 as Bruarflat. The modern local form nb Blåflat reflects dialectal assimilation of initial br- to bl-; historical sources explicitly record nb Bruflat as pronounced Blaaflat in Etnedal.
Old Norse non brú is from nb gem-pro *brūwō eyebrow; bridge, ultimately from nb ine-pro *h₃bʰrúHs eyebrow.
