Ukrainian
Etymology
Probably originated from the suffix uk -ість added to words ending in uk -ний, and was then extracted by uk 1 as a productive suffix. The same thing happened with e.g. uk -овий and English en -ness. From uk -ний -ість. Compare ru -ность, be -насць.
Suffix
uk suffix noun-forming suffixes
Suffix forming abstract nouns from adjectives. A less productive alternative to ru -ість, except after ru ч, where it is the regular suffix.
uk гото́вий ready → ru гото́вність readiness (no such word uk *гото́вний exists, making it a special case.)
Suffix forming nouns with the meaning of a group of things characterized by the quality designated by the adjectives from which the nouns are formed.
uk живи́й living → uk жи́вність small creatures collectively
Suffix forming nouns of various sorts from miscellaneous parts of speech.

Usage notes
Not all words in uk -ність contain this suffix. Most of them are formed from uk -ість added to adjectives in uk -ний.
As noted above, uk -ність is the regular alternative to uk -ість after adjectives whose stem ends in uk ч, e.g. uk жіночій.
