Etymology
mul la-med -, of mul 1 origin. First attested in Matthaeus Silvaticus, possibly identical to Matthaeus Platearius. Because both heavily employed Arabic sources it gave rise to speculations of mul ar - origin; from words existing in Arabic, ar دَرَوْنَج leopardsbane is the closest candidate, whence also Doronicum genus descends. Other origins suggested include a derivation of mul la *arna lamb, corrupt of la agna, or a deformation of mul la ptarmica sneezewort from grc πταρμική sneezewort, from grc πτάρνυμαι to sneeze.
