Etymology
fi koski + Tl, which stands for Turun lääni or Turku Province and refers to the Turku and Pori Province, a former province of Finland (as provinces are no longer a formal administrative division). Originally the name was meant to distinguish from the now former municipality of fi Koski Hl (later fi Hämeenkoski), also named fi Koski but located in the Häme Province (hence Hl). While this is no longer a risk, the municipality has elected to keep its name as-is.
The town is probably named after the nearby rapids, now called fi Patakoski.
