Superficially fi koivu birch lahti bay bay. The mentioned place name was adapted from fi sv Kvevlax (also written gmq-osw Koiffuolax (1440), gmq-osw Kåjwålax (1443), gmq-osw Quiffuelax (1543) in older sources), which in turn is from fi *Koivulaksi (thus fi koivu birch lahti bay bay 1) or fi *Kuivalaksi (thus fi kuiva dry lahti bay bay 1). The surname is mostly from place names.
