Scottish Gaelic
Alternative forms
gd Na h-Earradh
Etymology
Probably from gd non herað district, or perhaps gd non hærri higher.
The gd na became part of the name, imitative of a plural noun form, so that the initial /h/ would not "break" Gaelic grammar rules, as that consonant is permitted after the article na.
