Etymology
A spelling variant of nb Kasper, corresponding to Danish and Swedish da Casper and sv Casper. Ultimately from Medieval Latin la-med Caspar, traditionally the name of one of the Magi in Western Christianity. The name is usually explained as ultimately deriving from an Old Persian title meaning “treasurer”, though the precise historical transmission into the medieval personal name is uncertain.
The spelling nb Casper has an established Norwegian history and was used in Norway in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, before becoming substantially more popular from the late twentieth century.
