Suffix
nv suffix
nv Interrogative enclitic used with wh-words, nouns, pronouns, verbs and other particles to ask a question "what about ...?"
nv Haash yinílyé? What's your name?
nv Díísh háí bichʼah? Whose hat is this?
nv Nideezhíshąʼ háadi ółtaʼ? Where do your sister study?
Used with some interrogative pronouns + nv da, to form a meaning close to "I wonder..."
nv Háadidashąʼ shichʼah niníʼą́. I wonder where I put my hat.
Usage notes
When this interrogative enclitic is attached to a word ending with a vowel, sometimes with a glottal stop, it can be reduced to nv -sh.
háágóó + -shąʼ = háágóósh
Compared to nv lá, used in the same way, shąʼ is more direct and blunt, while nv lá is more indirect, and not so strong.
Alternative forms
