Preceded by earlier de Hermesberg and de Hermannsperg. Originally from de gmh Hermannsberg (equivalent to de Hermann personal name -es- Berg mountain), named in part after the gmh Hermannesbach, a nearby watercourse. Cognate with pfl Hermerschberch.
