Etymology
Spread via the Lower Rhineland from bar gml dingesdach and bar dum dinsendach (both with variants). Probably from bar gem-pro *þingsus-dagaz Day of Thingsus, from gem-pro *þingsus + gem-pro *dagaz. la Thingsus is the attested la - name of a bar gem - god who may or may not be the same as ang Tiw. Further particulars unsettled. Another theory is that it is the “Day of the de Thing historic Germanic council”. Cognate with de Dienstag and nl dinsdag.
