Etymology
de :pcal nds-de:Sneewittken :af Schnee -chen
de nds-de Sneewittken from nds Snee snow witt white -ken 1. The Brothers Grimm only adapted the diminutive suffix to de -chen, thus entitling the tale de Sneewittchen. Over time the first word also came to be adapted to de Schnee. Full calquing to de Schneeweißchen, however, was hindered by the fact that it already occurred in an unrelated tale called Snow-White and Rose-Red Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot.
