Norwegian Nynorsk
nn:
Etymology
From nn non Ímulvík. By surface analysis, nn Homla vik, where nn Homla (non *Ímla) is name of the river, upon which the town is located, from the root non *Ímull of unknown origin and meaning. The modern name may be understood as derived from nn hommel + nn vik (Hop Bay or Bumblebee Bay), where hommel is a variant of nn humle hop, bumblebee in Trøndelag dialect, but this etymology is historically incorrect.
