German
Etymology
de osx
de gml vlūs, gml vlūsch sheepskin or a derivative thereof, ultimately related to de gmw-pro *fleus fleece.
The figurative sense may have been derived from “flock of wool” via “worthless thing”. The same word was later borrowed again in its original sense as de Fluse lint, fluff of fabric 1. Compare also de Flausch 1, which too is a doublet.
