Either from ro hu Lápos, from hu lápos swampy, from hu láp moor, or from ro ine-pro -, similar to ro ine-bsl-pro *lápas leaf, lt lãpas leaf, lv lapa leaf, sheet of paper. Romanian has a number of plants that are named lăpuș, including Telekia speciosa - lăpuș-de-oaie, burdock - lăpuș-de-iepure, that are also found in Aromanian, Albanian, and Megleno-Romanian where they could not be derived from Hungarian.
