de riet
Etymology 1
From de gmh riet, from de goh riot, goh hriot, from de gmw-pro *hreud reed. Final de -d instead of expected de -t is due to West Central German influence (cf. goh ried, reid). The Low German variant de Reet, in turn, has de -t from generalized final devoicing, such that the dentals appear to have been “transposed” between both forms.

Usage notes
The byform de Reet was originally restricted to Low German areas. However, there is now a strong tendency to prefer de Ried for reed as vegetation and de Reet for reed as thatching material.im Reet/Ried, mit Reet/Ried, Reet-/Rieddach in Google Ngram Viewer.
