Hilkka was born on 22.04.1916 as the first child. Anna was not at all pleased with the name given to the child. She had wanted an entirely different name, Marja Terttu Orvokki. However, on the day of the christening, the pastor was late and Anna left to check the time. ( - - - ) So the lady had said:―"Well, let's give the name here now then. Let her be named Hilikka Helleena." My mother treated this as a happy coincidence, since she thought herself as more of a cheerful bonnet on one's head than a gentle bundle of berries or a fragile, swinging violet.

Ja isän nimi, Ali, mennään jonkun ali. Kaikki te tarkoitatte jotakin. ― Liina does mean cloth in Finnish and Hilkka does mean a kind of scarf you wear on your head. And father's name, Ali, going under someone. Your names all mean something.
