Finnish
Etymology
Named after the lake Lohja, which may derive from a contraction of fi *Lohijärvi (fi lohi + fi järvi) > fi *Lohjää > fi Lohja, or from dialectal fi lohja, fi lohjake, fi lohjakka slow, incapable; large, bulky, stiff through bynames/nicknames. Alternatively, it may have first referred to a waterway into which Lake Lohja flows, and might be from a contraction equivalent to fi lohi + fi oja, but through Estonian.Rahkonen, Pauli.
