Usage notes
Even though it is a demonym, the term has frequently been used in the lower case. Unlike in American Samoa, Guam, or the US Virgin Islands, the term Statesider is rarely used in Puerto Rico, even in English. Further, regarding the second sense of the term, among American Samoans and the Chamorro people of Guam, Native Hawaiians are generally seen as fellow people indigenous to the Pacific Islands and are, thus, not referred to as Statesiders in an ethnic sense.
