Plautdietsch
Etymology
From a presumed pdt gml *gelmȫre, with shortening of the long vowel of the element gml gēl yellow. The second element, pdt gml mȫre, represents pdt osx morha, from pdt gmw-pro *morhā wild carrot. For a name formed along similar lines, see Southern German de gelbe Rübe (literally "yellow root vegetable"; earlier forms of both Low German and High German lacked fully-lexicalised terms for the color orange and some varieties of carrot still cultivated in Central Europe appear more yellow than orange in any case).
