schuppe Schüppe
German
Etymology
From de gmh schuope, schuoppe, schuppe, from de goh scuobba, scuopa, from earlier goh *skōbba, ultimately from the root of de schaben to scrape.
Cognate with gml schōpe, gml schōve, gml schubbe. One of the rare words with a long vowel followed by an original geminate (compare de Haken). Different simplifications of this cluster led to the great variety of forms.
