Luxembourgish
Etymology
lb ine-pro *ǵenh₁-
From lb gmh küninc, from lb goh kuning, from lb gem-pro *kuningaz.
The Luxembourgish form does not continue the southern Middle High German variant gmh künic (inflected gmh künige), which is due to dissimilation. Rather, the lb -ek represents a general denasalisation of gmh -inc in final unstressed position. Compare lb Éislek and de Ösling Oesling a region in northern Luxembourg. The feminine lb Kinnigin was influenced by de Königin.
