English
Etymology
en 1 :af fr:Bohême<bor> -ia<id:place>
Latinized translation of en fr Bohême, from en la-lat Boiohaemum, compound of la Boii Boio- the Boii, the en cel - tribe previously inhabiting the area and en gem - gem-pro *haimaz home (more at en home). The endonym is from en cel-pro *boyos and could ultimately be from en ine-pro *gʷṓws cattle (compare en cel-pro *bāus cattle, genitive *bowos), a reference to cattle owners, or from ine-pro *bʰeyh₂- to hit, i.e. “warrior, strong hitter” (compare en cel-pro *binati to strike, hit).
Bohemia was abandoned by the Boii c. 60 BCE and settled by the Germanic Marcomanni shortly thereafter.Dietz, Karlheinz (Würzburg). “Boiohaemum.” Brill’s New Pauly, 2012. Reference. 14 March 2012 Related to en Bavaria.

en 1913 Norman Lindsay A Curate in Bohemia (novel) A Curate in Bohemia N.S.W. Bookstall Co. 1932 Sydney 96 There was about him a certain bar-room grandiloquence that fitted easily with the shabby Bohemia of Cripps's studio, but which the curate, unused to the literary vocabulary, found exceedingly impressive.
