Dutch
Etymology
First attested as in uttarlo in 838. Etymology nl 1. Potentially a compound of nl otter otter, Lutra lutra and nl lo pool, although it is strange that a location in the forested and arid Veluwe would be named after an aquatic mammal. A reinterpration of the first element as nl odt Authari a personal name is problematic as the initial element lacks a genetive case ending in the oldest attestations.
