Romanian
ro:
Etymology
Probably ultimately from ro la Danuvius/la Danubius, though through an uncertain intermediate form. A form *Donaris has been proposed to be the one that preceded the Romanian word, possibly showing influence from an older paleo-Balkan or Thracian name for the river, as the -aris suffix can be found in another river, ro Naparis. The Latin term is likely derived from a ro cel-pro *Dānowyos, from cel-pro *Dānu, of Indo-European origin. ro Danubiu.
Alternately, it may have been borrowed from ro cu Дꙋнавъ, cu Доунавъ, from ro sla-pro *Dunavь, from ro got *𐌳𐍉𐌽𐌰𐍅𐌹, with a singular form recreated from earlier plural form ro Dunări, from *Duna, akin to rup Duna.
Ultimately from ro ine-pro *déh₂nu river goddess, akin to ine-pro *dʰenh₂- to set in motion; to flow. Likely found in many other river names such as en Doncaster, en Don, en Donets and en Dniester, perhaps by way of Scythian (compare os дон river) or Celtic.
