druse Druse
German
Etymology
From de gmh drüese, alongside gmh druose, gmh druos, from de goh druos swelling, swollen gland. The gender and stem form of the Old High German are uncertain. It was probably a masculine, so the later forms in -e continue plural forms. Alternatively (or additionally) it may have been a feminine i-stem, in which case gmh drüese continues the plural and oblique singular; de druose (whence the doublet de Druse 1) would be a compromise form. Cognate with osx thrōs. Compare en dross.
