Etymology
From de gmh -haftec, from de goh -haftīg. Equivalent to de -haft + de -ig.
In contemporary German the two variants de -haft and de -haftig have been mostly regularised in such a way that the adjective ends in simple de -haft, but the nominal form ends in de -haftigkeit, e.g. de ernsthaft serious → de Ernsthaftigkeit seriousness.

Usage notes
The form remains general in a few relicts like de leibhaftig, de teilhaftig, de wahrhaftig. Otherwise the standard language uses the simple form in de -haft. Some variants, however, like de ernsthaftig, de glaubhaftig, de namhaftig (for standard de ernsthaft, de glaubhaft, de namhaft), may still at times be heard in speech.
