Usage notes
Reference to Switzerland is much rarer than to Austria. While both countries are “alpine republics”, the official name of Austria is de Republik Österreich, whereas Switzerland is called de Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft. Accordingly, Switzerland will usually be dubbed de Eidgenossenschaft die Eidgenossenschaft in those contexts where de Alpenrepublik is used of Austria.
