Turkish
Etymology
From tr ady Аслъэнгьэрый or tr kbd Аслъэнджэрий. The name is composed of ady аслъэн lion (ultimately of Turkic origin) and the Circassian dialectal suffix ady гьэрый. This suffix is an appropriation of the Crimean Tatar dynastic name Giray (which was heavily assimilated into Circassian nobility). It fits well with the Turkish form of Giray but is entirely unrelated to the Turkish word tr geri backwards. Although it contains Turkic elements, it is unique to Circassians within this cultural context and came to Turkey from Circassia. Like many traditional Circassian names, it is losing popularity in Turkey due to assimilation and Turkification.
Proper noun
tr male West Circassian, popular among Circassians in Turkey.
