다가

Alternative forms
ko -다 short form of both
Etymology 1
ws -다가〮 -tàká , from 다ᄀᆞ다 tako-ta to hold, to have + -아〮 -á verbal infinitive suffix. Equivalent to modern ko 다그- -아 infinitive suffix infinitive.ko 전후민 (Jeon Hu-min) ko {다가}의 변천사 The history of taka Urimalgeul 2014 63 29—68
Particle
particle
An emphatic particle.
ko 여기-다가 두면 되겠-소? Shall it be all right if I put it here?
ko 톱-으로-다가 나무-를 이렇게 자르시-오. Cut the wood with the saw like this.
Usage notes
The particle is attached to ko -에 at, ko -에게 to, ko -한테 to, and ko -으로 with, by, and with certain adverbs or nouns referring to place, direction, or means. Historically, it could also combine with ko -을 accusative case marker, but this is now fully obsolete.
Etymology 2
Cheoyong-ga (ko 處容歌 / 처용가) 如可 *-taka 1281 The Cheoyong-ga is claimed to be from the ninth century but is almost certainly of much later provenance, possibly as late as the thirteenth century. Not attested in earlier Old Korean sources.
ss -다가〮 -tàká y
Further etymology unclear. In 13th century gugyeol texts, this suffix appears as okm -入舍可 *-tosyaka when fused with the honorific suffix okm -으시-. This suggests that it is a compound of -더〮- -té- imperfect past suffix + -오〮- -wó- unclear suffix, perhaps the modulator + -가〮 -ká unclear suffix.ko:박진호 ko:국어의 시대별 변천 연구 3 ko:고대 국어 문법 1998 ko:국립국어연구원
However this is incompatible with the tonal pattern, as the syllable ko 다 has low pitch rather than the high pitch expected from this etymology. Perhaps the pitch was affected by that of the particle, although Kim Seong-gyu rejects this possibility.ko 김성규 (Kim Seong-gyu) Gugyeol yeon'gu ko:성조에 의한 어미의 분류 - 중세국어를 중심으로 - Classification of suffixes according to tone: Centering on Middle Korean 27 2010 243—295
