Gothic
Etymology
Among the Germanic languages this suffix is only found in Gothic, where it seems to have been highly productive. There have been attempts to link it to other Indo-European languages; Joseph (1982) suggests a link with grc -φα, an adverbial suffix (found in e.g.
grc μέσφα), from a supposed got ine-pro *-bʰeh₂. got
