Hindi
Etymology
hi inc-asa -आहुं -āhuṃ or inc-asa -अहुं -ahuṃ, from a blending of inc-asa -आणं -āṇaṃ genitive plural (from sa -आनाम्) with one or both of:
inc-asa -अहु -ahu genitive singular or inc-asa -अहो -ahŏ (from sa -अस्य1). This blending would be supported by the Sauraseni Apabhramsa instrumental/locative plural form inc-asa -अहिं -ahiṃ/-ihiṃ/-ē̆hiṃ (from sa -एभिः).
inc-asa -आहुं -ā̆huṃ or inc-asa -आहं -ā̆haṃ, ultimately from hi sa -असाम्, the genitive plural of sa -अस्, the as-stem ending. Such a transfer might indeed have occurred since the genitive singular in inc-asa -अहु -ahu was modified to match the as-stem genitive singular ending inc-asa -अहो -ahŏ, from sa -असः.6
