Etymology
ilo before, the only infrastructure that existed in the area were the road towards Acupan Mines, and a sawmill owned and operated by Mr. Ikyas. He also owned a logging concession whose harvest of forest products was used to feed the sawmill. When people from Ampukao, Itogon travelled to Baguio, they invariably passed by Ikyas' sawmill on board the Dangwa bus. On their return trip, they would take the same transport, alighting at the sawmill before hiking home. So every time the conductor asks for their destination, the often repeated answer is ilo "Idiay balay ni Ikyas" At the house of Ikyas. Thus, the bus conductors later dubbed the place "Kias".
Codified into a barangay in 1973.
