Etymology
First attested as dintre in 1139. Etymology nl unknown. Several compound derivations have been proposed, ranging from a compound of odt *dint strike, blow and odt *hara *heri sandy ridge to a derivation from odt *Dindo a personal name with an unknown second element and a derivation from la dent dent, blow. None of these proposed etymologies fit the oldest attestation. Currently part of the twin village of nl Heeswijk-Dinther.
