Usage notes
ko -는데 causes stem-final ko ㄹ to drop out.
ko -는데 is used for all verbs, for the existential adjectives ko 있다, ko 없다, and ko 계시다, and for adjectives with tense marking with ko -었- and ko -겠-.
The grammatical principle of ko -는데 can be applied to adjectives. However, instead of attaching ko -는데, you must attach ko -ㄴ데/ko -은데, where ko -은데 comes after an adjective that ends in a consonant, and ko -ㄴ데 attaches directly to an adjective that ends in a vowel (or with the consonant ko ㄹ). This applies to the copula ko -이다 as well. Note that ko 싶다 to want is an adjective.
