Latin
Etymology
la Lewis & Short gives *la Bryazontis as the genitive, which suggests that this name derives from an Ancient Greek present active participle (compare la amethystizōn, la horizōn, la poppyzōn, etc.). *grc Βρυάζων would be a plausible candidate, being a substantivisation of grc βρυάζων βρῠάζων swelling”, “teeming, the present active participle of grc βρυάζω βρῠάζω I swell”, “I teem, since many rivers swell and teem; however, is the substantivisation attested?
