German
thumb|1. eine Schachtel
Etymology
15th century, from de it scatola, with metathesis from de la castulum, itself a diminutive of Lombardic de goh kasto. Hence a de 1 of inherited de Kasten as well as the later borrowing de Schatulle. The -ch- is due to a de bar - consonantal development, for which compare de Spachtel.
